Sam Mutahi

Mixed Media Artist

Sam Mutahi (Slama) is a contemporary visual artist whose practice merges airbrush mastery, graffiti, and mixed contemporary styles to reimagine surfaces as limitless canvases. For him, art is not just expression it is activism, memory, and invention. Guided by the ethos of Collective Arts Community, his work transforms everyday materials into dialogues between technique, material, and message, engaging both personal vision and collective struggle. Beyond studio practice, his journey includes teaching interactions with youth and extensive participation in exhibitions, notably Nairobi Design Week (2023), Oshwal Auditorium, African Arts Triple Heritage in Mombasa, Karen Village, and a solo exhibition, Woven Faces (2025). His commitment to art as social commentary has also been recognized through awards such as Artivism Against Climate Change. His creative achievements extend into commissions for both local and international clients, including mural installations and branding projects for Everest Plastics, Infotech, Mr. Egg, Excel Yoghurt, among others. With a practice that blends fine art and functional design, his works span canvas, walls, vehicles, and found materials always pushing the boundaries of medium and meaning. As both an artist and cultural advocate, he continues to create bold, socially responsive works that confront issues such as climate change, environmental sustainability, and social awareness. His belief that “art is my first language” defines his philosophy: art as storytelling, social critique, and a catalyst for transformation.
